Description
A two-limb (dual-limb) breathing circuit is a medical tubing system that connects a patient to a mechanical ventilator or anesthesia machine, featuring separate tubes for inspiration and expiration.
How It Works
- Inspiratory Limb: Delivers fresh, conditioned gas (oxygen and air, often warmed and humidified) from the machine to the patient.
- Expiratory Limb: Carries exhaled carbon dioxide and gases away from the patient back to the machine or an exhalation valve.
- Y-Piece: Joins both limbs together at the patient’s airway connection (endotracheal tube or mask).
